Lowering the barrier to ALD
Enabled applications beyond Semiconductors

Purpose-Built ALD-Enabled Systems

Serenity Technology developed its custom equipment platforms to address a fundamental limitation in deploying SilverforLife™ technology at scale as well as how Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) tools are traditionally deployed.

ALD is a highly versatile thin-film deposition technology with applications well beyond the semiconductor industry, including medical implants, photonics and optics, advanced coatings, energy devices, and other functional materials. Despite this breadth, most commercial ALD tools are designed for the semiconductor industry and are engineered to meet extreme node-level requirements. While highly capable, these systems are prohibitively expensive and poorly suited for application-driven development outside semiconductor manufacturing.

This mismatch makes application-driven ALD development unnecessarily expensive, rigid, and inaccessible for niche and emerging technologies such as SilverforLife™. Serenity addressed this gap by engineering purpose-driven ALD-enabled equipment platforms—designed specifically for SilverforLife and related applications—without the cost and constraints of semiconductor-grade systems.

Why Not Semiconductor ALD?

Semiconductor ALD tools are optimized for transistor-level uniformity, ultra-tight node control, and fab-centric integration. These requirements drive extreme system complexity, rigid architectures, and very high capital and operating costs.

For application-focused technologies such as SilverforLife, this level of over-engineering provides little benefit while dramatically increasing cost and limiting flexibility. Serenity removes unnecessary semiconductor overhead while retaining required precision and repeatability. Additionally for non-semiconductor applications—such as medical devices, or optical components—this level of over-engineering provides limited benefit while significantly increasing cost and reducing flexibility. Application development becomes slower, more constrained, and economically inefficient.

Serenity’s approach removes unnecessary semiconductor overhead while preserving the precision, repeatability, and process control required for high-performance precision functional coatings for complex 3D geometries..

The Industry Problem

Conventional ALD tools are optimized for semiconductor fabs, carry excessive capital costs, restrict customization, and make applied process development economically impractical. Atomic Layer Deposition is inherently suited for a wide range of industries due to its conformality, thickness control, and material flexibility.

Key non-semiconductor application areas include:
• Medical implants and biomedical surfaces
• Photonics and optical coatings
• Advanced functional and protective coatings
• Energy and catalytic materials
• Niche and application-specific technologies such as SilverforLife™

Realizing these opportunities requires equipment platforms designed around application needs—not semiconductor process assumptions.
